She needed to get away from him before she did something stupid, like jump back into his arms or start crying again. She stepped to the side. “I need to get back to the house.”
When she tried to walk away, he curled a large, rough, hand around her arm. “This conversation isn’t done, baby, not by a long shot.”
Sara just nodded, not looking at him. She just wanted to get as far away from him as she could. She would try to avoid him, well, as much as living with someone allowed. Walking away from him, she wondered how a person could feel grief, lust, and be angry at the same time. The man was driving her crazy. Feeling his gaze on her, burning her back, she hurried to get away from him.
Neither of them saw the shadow at the far end of the barn recede and disappear out the door.
Chapter 6
Later that night, she decided to relax in the office where there was a large TV and DVD player. Her room had a TV but not the selection of DVDs these guys had. She knew the men were away at a meeting with a breeder so she had the downstairs to herself. After putting a DVD in the player, Sara relaxed back into the deep cushions of the sofa. Sighing, she put her feet up on the table and wiggled her toes, admiring the pink polish she’d put on last night.
Sara yawned. She was tired tonight, more than she usually was. She had spent extra time upstairs getting Callie in bed. For some reason, the little girl had a lot of energy tonight and was difficult to get to sleep.
Fifteen minutes into the Bruce Willis movie, Grant came in. “Hi, honey. I thought I heard the TV,” Grant said, smiling.
Startled, and surprised, she fidgeted in her seat when her body instantly jerked to awareness and became aroused. “What happened to the meeting?” She asked hesitantly. Her breath caught at the sight of Grant. He was rugged and handsome in jeans, a work shirt, and boots, but in black dress pants, and shoes, and a dark blue button-down shirt, he was devastating.
Grant moved slowly around the couch toward her, his eyes dark, and watchful. He was aware of her nervousness around him and he didn’t want to do anything to scare her away. This was the first time they had been alone at night, the first time she hadn’t hidden in her room after putting his daughter to bed, and he was going to take advantage of it. “It’s done. We already knew what we wanted, and he was ready to sell.” His voice was smooth and casual.
Grant sat down on the couch next to Sara, making sure her thigh felt the heat of his, but he wasn’t touching hers, yet. He kept his eyes on the movie, hoping to put her at ease.
Tension filled and tightened her body. Her heart started tripping in her chest. Her panties were instantly wet. She was afraid it would start to show through the silk lounge pants she put on after her shower. She shifted her thigh away from the heat and power of his, but he just moved his thigh again, closing the distance she tried to put between them. Disgruntled, she crossed her arms and pressed her legs together, trying to hide the arousal he was causing.
Grant’s features softened and warmed at her discomfort but he turned away slightly to hide it. He knew exactly what he was doing to her, and enjoyed making her as senseless as she made them. “What are you watching?”
“Die Hard,” Sara grumbled, suspicion heavy in her expression.
Grant turned his head, his grin widened, and he raised his eyebrows in surprise. “I never would have guessed you like these gory, fighting kind of movies.”
She arched her brow and lifted her chin. “There’s a lot about me you don’t know,” she sassed.
His body tightened further at her show of defiance. “That will change very soon, baby, very soon.” Grant’s voice was filled with promise, as his gaze roamed suggestively over her.
Frowning at the edge of arrogance and dominance in his voice, she chose to ignore his comment and turned back to the movie, trying to focus on Bruce Willis fighting with a bad guy. She hadn’t quite focused on the movie again when Jake walked in carrying a bowl of popcorn. Oh, Lord, she was not ready to be around him this soon after what happened earlier today in the barn.
She pushed herself to a standing position abruptly and moved quickly away from the couch before Grant could grab her. “I’m very tired.” She looked at Grant. She peeked at Jake and saw he had stopped and frowned at her. She lowered her gaze and ignored Grant calling her back, she headed for the door.
“Sit down,” Jake said, his features hooded, cold, and unreadable, stopping her retreat.
She shook her head and took another sliding step toward the door. “No, really, I need to get to bed.” Hearing a small groan behind her, she turned to look at Grant. “What?” Sara asked, her brows knitted together in confusion.
Grant smiled as his gaze roamed over her body. “Good idea. Let’s all go to bed.” He raised his eyebrows up and down comically and suggestively.
Sara inhaled, her body tightened, and her eyes widened, then veered down into a glare. “Grant, stop saying things like that.”
“No,” he said simply as he kept leering at her, one of his arms stretched out on the top of the sofa, one ankle crossed over his knee, and he relaxed back on the couch.
Fierce slashes of pleasure raced from her nipples to her clit. Sara didn’t know how to respond, so she turned to make her escape. She couldn’t take any more of Jake’s up and down emotions today, or Grant’s flirting. She moved around Jake, and she felt a large, warm hand wrap around her upper arm.
“I said sit down,” Jake bit out, his face growing darker, his dominant voice sending more shivers down her spine.
She just wanted to make it out of the room without embarrassing herself. She straightened her spine, ignored his grip on her arm, and shook her head. “No,” she said daringly in a hushed voice.
Instead of arguing, Jake walked to the sofa, drawing her behind him. Sara gasped and tried to pry his hand off her arm, but she had no chance against his strength. He was too strong. He handed the bowl of popcorn to his brother glowering at his smug grin. Jake gently sat Sara down next to his brother and preceded to sit on her other side.
Her breathing hitched in her throat. “I—” she started to say when Jake growled to her.
Jake’s gaze bore down into hers. “Hush, baby. Right now, we can play this two ways. One, you can sit here quietly like a good girl, or I can persuade you to stay with a nice spanking. Either way, you’re not leaving.”
She stared at him and swallowed in disbelief at his threat and to stop the moan in her throat from breaking free. She was terrified she would make a fool out of herself and throw herself at them. “Please listen to me, I know you don’t want me here, please just let me leave. You get very little time to just relax and I don’t want to ruin it for you.” Her voice cracked with a hint of desperation.
“Keep pushing me,” he bit out. “I would like nothing more than to have you across my lap and my hand on that sweet ass.” He lifted her chin with his finger until she was forced to look at him. “Look at me, Sara. The only way you’re going to ruin our night, is by walking away right now,” Jake said abruptly when she focused on him.
Grant’s hand landed heavily on her knee.
Sara’s nerves jumped and startled her into looking at him.
His eyes were drawn to the frantic pulse in her throat as he gently squeezed her thigh. They dropped to her mouth before moving back up to her face. He ached for her so severely, he could feel a bit of his sanity slide. “As much as I’d like to see you across his knees, Sara, you’re going to stay, so let it go for now.” His voice was guttural. After one last sliding caress, he released her knee.
Sara took a deep breath which drew the men’s eyes to her breasts. Her nipples tighten fiercely.
She crossed her arms over her sleep-shirt tank on her chest, and tried to hide the fact she wasn’t wearing a bra and the tight aching points of her breasts were trying to push themselves through her shirt.
She jumped and scowled at them when they both growled. “Fine,” she said finally. Sara settled back and tried to find a comfortable spot against the l
eather cushion without touching the men on either side of her. She trained her eyes on the TV and attempted to focus on the movie again. She jerked and gasped as a bolt of pleasure shot through her when both Jake’s and Grant’s thighs settled against hers, and pinned her between their heated bodies. She swallowed and licked her lips nervously, as her heated blood ran through her veins and to every sensitive spot on her body.
Sara bit down on her tongue hard, to prevent the whimper that was trying to force its way up her throat. She fidgeted, trying to get comfortable, only to have Jake hush her. Her body was a riot of sensations. Everything was sensitized, every nerve ending, every breath.
Instead of the movie, her gaze was drawn to their tan, muscle-roped, forearms, and strong hands. She wanted to follow the tattoos on Jake’s arms with her lips and tongue. Sara wanted to feel the softness of the chest hair that peeked out of the top of Grant’s shirt. Mostly, she desperately wanted their hands all over her body, giving her relief that her body had craved since she’d first laid eyes on them.
Sara listened to their breathing and smelled their musky scents, and it created another rush of moisture to gather in her panties.
After a while, the heat of their bodies caused her eyes to grow heavy and made her give into her exhaustion, relaxing her muscles, and settling her body deeper into the cushions of the couch.
Jake was in pain. His cock was so hard it hurt to breathe. He took a deep breath and tried to ignore Sara and the way she relaxed against them. He wanted to reach for her and sink his cock so deep into her she’d never remember a time he wasn’t inside her. He swallowed and tried to breathe through his mouth because the smell of her arousal was driving his arousal higher, pushing him closer to his limit of control.
Grant couldn’t take his attention away from her. Her scent and the feel of her was going straight to his cock. His hands were shaking with the effort to not reach for her and wrap himself around her. God, how long did he have to wait? He couldn’t, wouldn’t, last much longer. He needed her like he needed his next breath.
The movie continued with nobody viewing it. Sara yawned tiredly, her eyes drooping. As aroused as she was, the lack of sleep she’d experienced since coming to the ranch, and the heat and security these men provided her, wrapped around her, made staying awake impossible. Sara slid into sleep and unknowingly settled tighter against Jake, laying her head on his shoulder.
Grant waited for a few moments as she fell into a deep sleep and smiled over her head at Jake. “She’s beautiful, isn’t she?” He didn’t wait for an answer. He sighed tiredly, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand. “I want her, Jake. I already want her with every cell in my body.” He continued to study his brother’s hard features, hurting at the pain and the uncertainty on his face. “I know you want her.” Grant breathed in the smell of Sara’s sweet arousal. “When are you going to finally admit it?”
Jake stared down at her stunning, feminine face. She looked so sweet, so trusting, as she rested against him. The way his emotions see-sawed between needing her, and the fear of taking her, was driving him mad. He wanted so badly to grab onto her and never let go, but the possibility of her leaving held him back.
Jake was afraid of making the same mistake and picking the wrong woman again. No matter how badly he wanted Sara, Callie depended on them for security. Christy had ruined something in him, a hope for the future, and for the family, he dreamed about since childhood. He couldn’t get rid of the idea of her leaving. What would happen to them if she didn’t stay? If she left, there would never be another woman he would consider for a relationship, much less a marriage.
He looked at his brother, watching him stare at Sara sleeping against him. The look on his brother’s face held more love and affection than it ever had with Christy. Jake shook his head, gaining his brother’s attention. “I want her, too, Grant. But what if she doesn’t stay? As much as I want her, I’m afraid to open myself up to it again. I thought I loved Christy in the beginning.” He looked back at Sara. “But it wasn’t anything close to what I feel for Sara and it scares the hell out of me. We have to think of Callie. It would break her heart if Sara left.”
Jake looked down at Sara, then he pressed her gently into Grant’s waiting arms and stood. When he looked back at his brother, Grant was looking at Sara. “She’s ours, Jake. If you keep pushing her away, she might just leave us. Get to know her better. She loves it here and she loves this family. I see the way she looks at you and I catch her looking at me. You’re going to drive her away. You’re going to ruin what we could have before it even begins. Don’t let fear take this away from us.”
Grant smiled regrettably down at her sleeping so soundly and trustingly against him. “Look at it this way. We can’t say we made a mistake with Christy, not when we have that sweet, beautiful, little girl upstairs.” He stood with Sara in his arms and headed toward the door, whispered to the sleeping woman in his arms when she started to rouse.
Jake watched them go. A cold knot formed in his stomach. He wanted desperately for his brother to be right because he was afraid he was already in love with her, and didn’t know how much more he could take without claiming her. Seeing her every day and not being able to touch her, to sink as deep as he could into her pussy and make her his.
He stood and snatched the forgotten bowl of popcorn. He turned off the TV and took the bowl into the kitchen and after disposing of the popcorn, and washing out the bowl, he grabbed his coat and headed to the stables to check on the mare and new foal, hoping to keep his mind on something besides that woman. Jake shivered when a bit of cold night air sneaked down the front of his shirt.
Grant laid Sara gently on her bed. He smiled when she grumbled at him and rolled to her side, tucking her hands under her cheek. He took her white fuzzy slippers off but kept her shirt and lounge pants on. His gaze wandered down her length. When she slept with them, he would demand she not wear clothes, ever. He wanted very badly to lie down beside her right now, and hold her against his body all night, but he didn’t trust himself not to pull her clothes off and sink into her tight, wet pussy and stay there until they both passed out from the pleasure.
After covering her with the soft throw blanket from the end of the bed, he moved toward the door. He looked back at her one more time before he gently closed the door. It was physically painful to make himself walk away from her. He didn’t know how much longer he could wait to make her his. Although he was frustrated with his brother, he understood how he felt. If he didn’t feel so strongly that Sara was their future, he wouldn’t even suggest they pursue her. He had known from the minute he’d first met her, she was theirs. Now if he could only get Jake to see past his fear.
Grant hoped a cold shower would ease the ache so he could go to sleep. He knew it wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, his thoughts turned back to Sara. A moan ripped from his throat, he knew the burn of arousal wouldn’t go away until he had Sara under him.
He ran his hand down his body and gripped his aching cock. He stroked until he came, squirting his come onto his chest and stomach.
He wiped the come off his body, and disposed of the tissue before he rolled to his side and closed his eyes. He gritted his teeth in frustration. Even after masturbating, he was still painfully hard. It was close to dawn when he finally slid into sleep.
After Jake checked on the horses, he came back into the house and took his boots off. He checked to make sure the house was locked up tight and dragged himself upstairs to his bedroom. When he came to Sara’s door, he paused. He knew it might be a mistake, but he needed to see her one more time before he went to sleep. Quietly, he walked to her bed and looked down at her. He bent down to smooth the blanket over her, and shifted her hair away from her face before he stroked his finger softly over her lips.
He finally stood and turned, painfully making himself walk away from her when she startled him by murmuring his name. He turned but relaxed when he saw she was still sleeping. It was the hardest thing in the world n
ot to go back to her bed and wake her, sinking into her depths, and make her his woman.
Jake turned back to the door. He undressed and sighed tiredly. He knew he would get very little sleep.
Chapter 7
The next day, Sara found Gina in the laundry room. She hesitated a moment to get the nerve to talk to the woman. She didn’t want to put up with her attitude today, but she needed to talk to her. “Excuse me, Gina, I need a few things in town. Do you think it would be okay if I borrowed a truck? Callie just went down for her nap, so I’ll have enough time to run there and back before she gets up.”
Gina stared at her for a moment, her brows furrowed.
Sara bit her lip, anticipating a snide remark or Gina just ignoring her. The look in her eyes and her silence caused a shiver of apprehension to course up Sara’s spine.
Her face smoothed out. “I don’t see a problem with that. Take the blue truck I use. The keys are in it.” Gina’s voice was smooth and soft.
This was the nicest Gina had been to her since she’d come to the ranch. Something about her expression made Sara suspicious. She told herself she was being ridiculous. “Are you sure?”
“Absolutely.”
“Okay then, I’ll just run and get my purse and leave. I promise I’ll hurry,” Sara said as she turned.
“Oh, don’t hurry. If Callie wakes up before you get back, I’ll bring her down here with me.”
Sara paused. Another shiver of unease ran down her spine. She shook her head and moved away.
Sara’s shoulders relaxed as the miles passed by. Just looking at the beautiful fields with the abundance of flowers and trees loosened the stress she hadn’t known she’d been carrying and helped her shoulders to relax.
